Isen ligger fortfarande på vattnet i viken.

Och häckningsplatsens spekulanter har börjat att flockas i området.

Mörk jordhumla (Bombus terrestris) Buff-tailed bumblebee

De gulaktiga "plupparna" eller "kulorna" på humlan är kvalster, Parasitellus (talparum?). Kvalstren skadar inte humlan, men de kan bli så många att den inte orkar flyga. Humlan riskerar att svälta ihjäl när den inte kan samla mat längre. Hittar man en "prickig" och svag humla och känner för att hjälpa till så kan man doppa den i vatten. Lura upp humlan på en pinne och doppa den snabbt. Kvalsten ska då hoppa utav medan humlan håller fast i pinnen. Hitta ett tort och skyddat ställe där humlan kan torka och återhämta sig.

The yellowish "dots" or "pearls" on the bumblebee are mites, Parasitellus (talparum?). The mites does not harm the bumblebee, but they can be so many that it can't fly. The bumblebee risks starving since it can't gather food any longer. You can dip the bumblebee in water if you find a "dotted" and weak bumblebee and feel like helping it. Trick it o hold on to a stick and dip it quickly in the water. The mites should then jump off while the bumblebee holds on to the stick. Find a dry and sheltered place where the bumblebee can dry up and recover.

Glad Påsk! ~~ Happy Easter!

Så är det dags för påskkärringarna att flyga till Blåkulla igen. Mamma hade kameran med sig och fångade den här kärringen när hon (krash) landade.

It's time for the Easter Witches (Swedish  Tradition) to fly to Blåkulla (Blue Hill) again. My mother had her camera with her and she caught this witch as she (crash) landed.

 Förra veckan besökte mamma Hornborgasjön och Trandansen. Så mycket som 12000 tranor kan landa där dagligen. Rekordet är 18500 tranor 31 mars 2009. Det finns också webkameror som just nu visar tranorna och andra fåglar på platsen.

Last week my mother visited  Hornborgasjön and Trandansen (The Crane Dance). As much as 12000 cranes land there daily. The record is 18500 cranes 31 Mars 2009. There are also webcams that right now shows the cranes and other birds.

 "Tranedagen" infaller den 25e mars och firas i vissa lokala delar av södra Sverige. Barnen målar bilder utav tranor som de ställer mot fönstren på kvällen, i hopp om att tranan ska komma med godis till dem under natten. Tranorna bär också med sig lusare tider och vidskepelse sa att var ljuset tänt i ett hus när tranorna flög förbi så skulle huset brinna eller någon då under det följande året.

"The Crane Day" is on the 25th Mars and is celebrated in a few local places in southern Sweden.  The children paints pictures of cranes they they put in the windown in the evening, hoping that the crane will bring them candy during the night. The cranes also carries brighter times with them and according to superstition, the house will burn or someone will die during the following year, if the cranes sees light on in the house when they fly over it.
